On The Road To Denver

No Comments, Uncategorized, by jhilton.

Well the day had finally arrived for us to go to Denver to see our good friends Bob and Betty. The trip started out without incident until we hit a car hood laying in the road with the Challenger. Thankfully the Mopar Gods were smiling on us and there was no damage to the Challenger. Disaster avoided! Then we made our way through Missouri and the rain that was pounding its way through the state. Kansas was a long straight road, with almost no gas stations to speak of. We almost ran the car out of gas, and then ran into the same problem in Colorado so that means they almost did it again. Thankfully that didn’t happened and we happily found ourselves at Bob and Betty’s at about 2 am. Now the fun begins!

Duane Abrams

Today we said our final good-byes to our friend and club member Duane Abrams.  Duane was a lover of all cars, especially Mopars, and a friend to all.  Along with being a club member, Duane also served in the United States Army, Coast Guard Reserve, and worked for the Memphis Police Department where he had since retired.  Duane was a great person who was always poking fun at everyone while poking fun at himself in the process.  That was Duane’s way.  To me he was a very good friend, one that will be very deeply missed.

The Big Saturday Cruise

No Comments, Uncategorized, by jhilton.

Well I have to say that if you missed today’s cruise to Jackson you missed out on a really good time. The fun started the minute the cruise started moving, and did not stop. First off I would like to say that we did not have just one 2009 Challenger on hand, but 2. My Torred Challenger R/T Classic as well as a Tripple Black R/T Classic. There was also a 2010 B-5 Blue Challenger R/T Classic on hand as well to enjoy in the fun. Oh, and if I do say so myself, they looked really good going down the road together. We all had a really nice ride through Brownsville and then on to I-40. Then it was a mad dash to exit 80-A and two quick right turns and then a left into Cassey Jones Village. And just to let you know how small of a world this is, our neighbor from down the street was there with his family as well for a family get together. The food was great and so was the company. After lunch we all took some time to look at a few of the shops and get a photo opp with all three of the new dodges in line. Then the fun really began as we took them all on to I-40 for a rolling photo shoot. My 1970 GTX was used as the chase car to film all three Challengers going down the road. And I must say again, it sounds really good going down the road at 70mph. While all of this was going on I had Terry and his wife along for the ride in the Challenger. I know that Terry was having a really good time because he absolutely could not stop smiling the entire time. After the ride I asked him when he was going to go and pick one out and all he could do is laugh and smile. Yup, these new cars are just as addictive as the old ones are. Once you get a taste, you will always be wanting more. Well, the ride back was pretty uneventful, so I think that I will sign off for now and work on getting some of these pictures and video posted. If you have any ideas for our next cruiz please let us know. The next one will probably be in about 3 weeks. Until then, take care everyone:)!

My New GPS System

This last Saturday we took a ride up to Middle Tennessee State University for the Third Annual Japanese Speech Competition. I found this a to be a perfect time to test out my new Motorola Motonav GPS system. It is about like any other GPS system out on the market with the exception that this one is equipped as a blue tooth as well as a GPS which makes talking on the phone exceptionally easy while driving. It shows the names of all of the streets and tells you when to turn and how far to go and all of that stuff. Lets just say that it is a lot easier than trying to drive and read the directions that you might have mapquested before your departure. The thing that I found most interesting was that it even told you of speed limit changes on all major highways and interstates. It even tried to admonish me for speeding, but hey, I was just keeping up with traffic. All in all I am very pleased with my new GPS and am looking forward to using it in May.

Are You Ready?

No Comments, Club Events, by jhilton.

Hello all,
Sorry for the long time between events, but due to the harsh winter and Mother Nature not wanting to cooperate with us, there was really very little that we could do given the circumstances. But, now that spring is here we are ready to get things rolling again. We are going to have our first event in 2 weeks on the 10th of April and, Mother Nature willing, I hope to see everyone come out for this one. We will be going to Casey Jones Village in Jackson TN for lunch. Everyone will meet at the Millington Wal-Mart between 1000 and 1030 hrs. Hopefully we will have a good turn out. If you are planning to come please let either myself, Joseph, or Buddy know so that we can make sure that everyone can go up as a group. Take care and I hope to see you all very soon.
